about
This track is inspired by our deep interest and passion for Egyptology which, for both Libby and I, started long before we knew each other when, in 1972, like 1.5 million others we visited the Tutankhamen Exhibition at the British Museum in London. Entry cost 50 pence.
Fast forward to 2006 when together we visited Egypt for the first time. We have been back many times, most often to Luxor or, ancient Thebes, and yet there is still more to explore.
Even a person with zero interest in Egyptology can’t help but to have heard of Tutankhamen, a minor pharaoh made famous by the first ever discovery of a, more or less, in-tact tomb containing a huge number of golden objects.
Everyone has seen the image of the stunningly beautiful golden death mask and most have heard of the so called ‘curse’ of the tomb! However, here our main focus is on Howard Carter who in 1922, together with Lord Carnarvon, discovered in the Valley of the Kings the tomb designated KV62.
We hope you enjoy reliving that journey of discovery with us.

ALABASTER PRAYERS - THEBES, 1325 BC
SOLAR BOATS
ONE LAST SEASON - HIGHCLERE CASTLE, JUNE 1922
Stop! I can’t go on
All the wasted years
Have killed my appetite
The hunger’s gone
Stop! I won’t go on
With some fruitless search
This damned
Expensive game
Will finish me
I know he’s there
He must be there
The valley showed me
We are so close
He’s waiting there
No time to give in
Stop! Listen to me
You must understand
My patience has worn thin
My wallet too!
Stop! Hear what I say
We gave everything
Our reckless hopes
And dreams
Won’t pay the bills
I’m sure I’m right
You know it too
Let me continue
I’ll sell my goods
House if I must
But I’ll continue
Oh damn it man
Let's do it then
Just one more season
The valley calls
I will complete
The work we started
Just one more try
Just one last chance
One final season
Just one more try
It’s do or die
One final season
Long hidden
Secrets concealed
The valley now must reveal
THE SEARCH
(A WATER POT, STEPS & SEAL) - LUXOR, NOVEMBER, 1922
WONDERFUL THINGS - LUXOR, 26th NOVEMBER, 1922
Wonderful
Wonderful things
Everywhere…
the glitter of gold
BLESSINGS AND CURSES - LUXOR, 1923
Now the news is out there
Just listen to the din
LC is in his element
The press in a spin
The Times has the exclusive
The others are so mad
Making up wild theories
To sell tawdry rags
Authority and chaos
A close but deadly shave
Dignitaries and bureaucrats
Shake hands by the grave
A plague of news reporters
Like flies around dead meat
Carnarvon’s death, mosquitos
The truth in retreat
The new Head of Antiquities
Thinks he is so grand
All my work is halted
What a stupid man!
Their madness will not stop me
So let them do their worst
There are things
More wonderful
Than some ancient curse
Tut Mania Unwrapping
Tut Mania Bulbs flashing
Tut Mania Distracting
Tut Mania It’s catching
Tut Mania Plans hatching
Tut Mania We’re clashing
Tut Mania Combating
Invited to the country
To amuse the upper class
No interest in artefacts
Truth of the past
It’s time to leave the circus
I will not be their clown
I'll pack my bags
And disappear
To London town
IMPERISHABLE STARS - LONDON, MARCH 1939
Is this the end?
No Love, no friend
Left unrewarded
Remembering
Those golden wings
Awe and elation
My destiny
Obscurity
Yours everlasting
And what endures
Your face so pure
Sealed in my memory
Osiris stay
Balance and weigh
Heart against feather
The spirit leaves
I will believe
We are together
Resting now…
Under the
Imperishable stars
